Taking One Small Thing’s crucial conference online

The Brief

One Small Thing, founded by Lady Edwina Grosvenor, is a charity that seeks to understand the trauma within the prison system while also raising awareness of how compassion and respect can prevent women from re-offending.

Their work is absolutely vital within the judicial system, so when COVID posed a problematic hurdle to running their annual conference, they approach us to help to it online and engage their network as effectively as a live event would.

The Solution

We employed a high-production TV-style broadcast to create maximum impact, bringing the presenters together at our Manchester studio with an expansive LED backdrop, multi-cam setup and autocue to create the right environment for each presenter and their content.

The virtual audience joined through a bespoke digital platform, enabling interaction between delegates and seamless breakout sessions. With Q&A functionality and interactive elements integrated as well, we provided as many opportunities for contributions as possible to keep people totally engaged.

Given the sensitive subject matter, we know self-care and wellbeing needed to carefully considered too. We dedicated agenda breaks to these topics, with a yoga professional leading a routine and a wellbeing expert providing tips for boosting physical and mental fitness. We even had TV historian Dan Snow on hand to bring his presenting skills to help compere the event!

The Results

The event was a huge success, boosting One Small Thing’s profile and connecting practitioners at a time when people were feeling isolated in their roles.

They had their highest number of attendees and speakers at the event, ensuring that the level of interaction and engagement with content was high, giving One Small Thing measurable return on their overall objectives.

It made us extremely proud to make a difference for a charity doing such vital work in the field of trauma. Being able to come up with creative solutions to ensure that we gave virtual attendees an engaging, interactive experience and then seeing how beneficial they found the content as well as connecting with peers was amazing to be a part of.
