Sustainable event experiences. Great minds think alike

We all know from experience that the events industry plays a big part in generating lots of waste. On the whole, they’re rarely described as truly sustainable. But something has to give. Which is why we work so hard to champion change. Change for the better. We don’t want the experiences, campaigns and activations we create to cost the earth (quite literally)...

We all know from experience that the events industry plays a big part in generating lots of waste.

On the whole, they’re rarely described as truly sustainable. In fact, let’s just take tradeshows and exhibitions for example:

  • Trade shows generate an estimated 600,000 tons of waste per year
  • 60% of the materials used end up in landfill
  • Transportation of staff, audience and materials generates significant greenhouse gas emissions
Trades shows generate an estimated 600,000 tons of waste per year. 60% of the materials used in trade shows end up in a landfill. Shipping and transporting exhibits generates significant greenhouse gas emissions. And that's just the start...

Championing change

But something has to give. Which is why we work so hard to champion change. Change for the better. We don’t want the experiences, campaigns and activations we create to contribute to figures like these – and we encourage all our clients to think the same.

A sustainable mindset

Being sustainable is as much about mindset as it is about the actual detail. It doesn’t just happen by accident. You have to really want it, believe in it and be committed to doing what it takes to push your events, campaigns, activations, and your organisation towards greater sustainability. If this seems daunting, there is help out there so find out what’s available for your industry or sector and how they could benefit your organisation.

Sustainable minds think alike

At simplybetter, we put a tremendous amount of time and effort into our own sustainability credentials, from our day-to-day activities through to every experience we create. So, when it comes to events, this is a great way for clients to underpin their sustainability credentials. However, we’re always on the lookout for like-minded brands who want more than that. Brands who take their own sustainability seriously too, who insist on creative, results-led experiences that don’t cost the earth (quite literally). You could say we’re a bit fussy – but that’s how change happens. We want to be strategic partners for clients who think, believe and behave just like us, companies who are constantly evolving to put both environmental and social sustainability at the heart of their business. And if they’re not quite there yet, we use our experience and enthusiasm to help them get there.

Social sustainability?

You would have to be living under a rock not to understand at least the basics of environmental sustainability. But social sustainability goes deeper. It’s about people – working with companies who value difference, inclusivity and wellbeing. Companies who value their people and the contribution they make tend to have a more stable, engaged workforce that works together, shares ideas and is open to change. These are the companies we want to work with.

Sustainable relationships

Building strong, long-term relationships with like-minded organisations can reinforce and boost your existing strengths, allowing you to push yourselves, your clients, colleagues, customers and suppliers towards greater sustainability in all its forms. For us, these relationships mean having the scope and support to imagine, to innovate, to design and to produce unforgettable yet sustainable events, campaigns and activations.

Sustainably led event solutions

The client: CarnaudMetalBox

CMB manufacture the machines that manufacture cans all over the world.

Event type: Exhibition stand, trade show, Germany

The challenge: To design their first ever ‘productless’ stand, eliminating the transportation of massive machines

The sustainable solution: Touchscreen technology (triggered by cans or hands) that allowed attendees to browse the product range, including 360 videos with pop up content, fully mapped out schematics plus plenty of features and benefits.

The results: 200% increase in sales generated. The digital, interactive content provided supporting sales collateral. CMB significantly lowered their emissions compared with previous exhibitions.
